Clear the Clutter, Protect Your Identity: Join the DPW Shred Event on August 22

Baltimore City residents, it’s time to tackle those stacks of old paperwork safely and securely. The Department of Public Works (DPW) is hosting a free, drive-through Shred Event on Saturday, August 22, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Coppin State University – General Parking Lot C (1718 Thomas Ave, Baltimore, MD 21216).

What to Expect at the Shred Event

This community event is designed to help residents securely dispose of sensitive paper documents while promoting recycling and zero-waste efforts. Here’s what you need to know:

  • Free, secure paper shredding: Bring up to two 32-gallon bags of paper documents per vehicle.

  • Drive-through format: Stay in your car for a convenient, contact-free experience.

  • Additional recycling options: Electronics and textile recycling will also be available on-site.

  • Baltimore City residents only: Proof of residency may be required.

What Can (and Can’t) Be Shredded

To keep the event running smoothly, please note the following guidelines:

Accepted:

  • Paper documents (bills, statements, old files, etc.)

Not Accepted:

  • Cardboard

  • Plastic

  • Trash or non-paper materials

Any loads containing non-paper items will need to be corrected before reentering the line.
